SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education is recruiting for a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child with additional learning needs in a warm and inclusive school in Nottingham. This full-time role will begin in September 2025 and is ideal for candidates who are patient, caring, and committed to helping pupils with SEN thrive in a mainstream classroom.

 About the Role:

You will work one-to-one with a pupil who has an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) and requires tailored support throughout the school day. Duties include:

  • Providing targeted support during lessons to help with engagement and understanding

  • Using specialist strategies (e.g. visual aids, sensory tools) to support emotional regulation and communication

  • Assisting with transitions, break times, and social interactions

  • Helping the pupil to develop independence and confidence

  • Collaborating closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals

  • Monitoring progress and contributing to reviews of support plans

 Ideal Candidate:

✅ Experience supporting children with special educational needs – especially autism, ADHD, SEMH, or communication needs
✅ Calm, nurturing, and consistent in approach
✅ Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
✅ A good understanding of classroom behaviour strategies
✅ Relevant qualifications in SEN, childcare, or education (desirable but not essential)
✅ Passionate about helping all children achieve their potential

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
