Teaching Assistant (SEND)

Job Description

Location: Nuneaton
Hours: Full‑time, Monday to Friday, 8:30‑15:30
Start Date: As soon as possible

About The School

This is a SEND provision committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and trauma‑aware learning environment for children and young people with additional educational needs.

The Role

We are looking for a compassionate, resilient Teaching Assistant who will support pupils with special educational needs, contributing to their educational, emotional, and social growth. This is a full‑time role, Monday to Friday, 8:30‑15:30, starting ASAP.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with individuals or small groups of pupils with SEND to support learning and development
  • Assist in delivering differentiated and adapted curriculum content to meet pupils’ specific needs
  • Support pupils in managing and regulating behaviour, using relational/restorative practices to de‑escalate situations
  • Help build trusting relationships with pupils, encouraging emotional resilience, confidence, and independence
  • Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO, and other staff to plan, assess, monitor and record pupil progress
  • Adjust resources, learning environments and approaches to reduce barriers to learning
  • Support pupils’ wellbeing, attending to their social and emotional needs as part of daily routines

Person Specification

We are seeking someone who:

  • Has experience of working with children or young people with SEND, or a strong willingness to learn
  • Is resilient, calm under pressure, patient, flexible and consistent in behaviour support
  • Is empathetic, building positive relationships, understanding the needs of pupils with SEND
  • Understands (or is willing to be trained in) trauma‑informed or relational practice
  • Has good communication skills: able to work well with pupils, staff, parents/carers and external agencies
  • Is a team player but can also take initiative where needed
  • Is reliable, organised and committed to upholding high expectations for both learning and behaviour
