1:1 Teaching Assistant for a non verbal child

Job Description

Zest Education are recruiting for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work with a non verbal child at a primary school in Lichfield. This role is full time and will see you working in reception supporting a child with special educational needs.

This primary academy aims to be the beating heart of the community; the ‘go to’ place for all our local residents who love where they live. As a result of the educational experience, children will move onto the next part of their educational journey with knowledge, skills, inspiration and ambition for their futures. They will be happy, healthy, honest and respectable young people committed to their successful futures.

The child you would be supporting is non verbal and needs support whether this be inside of outside of the classroom. Its very important that you are a calm and patient person to ensure you can effectively support the child.

You must be able to:

  • Communicate clearly

Use simple, clear language, and speak slowly and clearly. Use the child’s name to let them know you’re speaking to them.

  • Use visual supports

Use pictures, symbols, or objects efficiently to help the child understand what you’re saying.

  • Use gestures and eye contact

Gestures and eye contact can help build a foundation for language.

  • Encourage play

Children learn through play, including learning language.

  • Use short key words
Use shorter phrases and key words, such as object names, action names, and everyday requests.
This full time role is to start as soon as possible and you must be able to commit to the role for continuity for the child.
