1:1 Teaching Assistant – Walsall.

Zest Education are working with ‘good’ rated special educational needs school in Walsall to recruit for a Teaching Assistant to work on 1:1 basis with an eight-year-old child that has Autism (ASC). This role is due to start in October 2022 and will be an ongoing position.

The school itself caters for children from the age of five to sixteen with Autism (ASC) and social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH). Due to the needs of the learners, the ideal candidate must have previous experience supporting individuals with special educational needs or in a similar environment.

The successful candidate will be required to work on a 1:1 basis with an eight-year-old child who has Autism (ASC). You must be able to quickly build trusting relationships and encourage independence where possible. Many of the children throughout this school have difficulty with communicating and use PECS and Makaton so, knowledge of this would be advantageous.

The role:

  • You must be passionate about working with students with special educational needs and have previous experience of working in a special school or similar environment
  • You must be confident with your behaviour management and to de-escalate any challenges you may face with your calm approach
  • You will be required to work with the students individually and in small groups, supporting with all areas of the curriculum
