Zest Education is recruiting a reliable and proactive School Caretaker to join a friendly school in South Birmingham. This is a key role in maintaining the school site, ensuring it remains a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
Oversee the maintenance, security, and cleanliness of the school premises
Carry out minor repairs, basic maintenance, and general DIY tasks
Ensure heating, lighting, and alarm systems are functioning properly
Open and lock up the school site, including responsibility for alarms and keys
Monitor contractors and ensure health & safety standards are maintained
Support with site preparation for school events and activities
Report larger repair issues and liaise with external contractors where necessary
✅ Previous experience as a caretaker, site manager, or maintenance worker (school or similar environment preferred)
✅ Good practical DIY and maintenance skills
✅ Reliable, flexible, and able to work independently
✅ Understanding of health & safety and safeguarding procedures
✅ Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
