Classroom Support Assistant

Job Description

We’re recruiting for an enthusiastic, bright, and hard-working Classroom Support Assistant to work on a long-term basis at a special educational needs school located in Walsall. This school caters for students from the age of four to fifteen with Autism (ASC) and social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH). The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working with individuals with SEND and is confident with managing challenging behaviours.

The team here work hard to maintain a supportive and inclusive ethos across all areas of the school and put the children at the heart of what they do. You will be working with students on a 1:1 basis as well as working with small groups. The school ensures that each class does not exceed nine students and maintains a high level of staff.  The successful candidate must be a proactive and engaging individual who has proven experience of having strong behaviour management skills and working across a range of age groups.

This role is to start ASAP and will continue into the new academic year. You will be required to work 8:30am to 15:30pm, Monday to Friday. There is potential that this position could become permanent for the right candidate.

The role:

  • You have previous experience of working with individuals who have special educational needs
  • You will be working with children one a 1:1 basis and in small groups so it is important that you have a flexible approach
  • You are confident with managing challenging behaviour and can de-escalate any challenge you do face with a calm, rational approach

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
