Classroom Support Assistant – SEND

Job Description

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Supervise children with additional needs during class and break times, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Liaise closely with teachers, SENCO, and other school staff to ensure consistent, effective support.
  • Help prepare learning materials and classroom resources.
  • Encourage independence, positive behaviour, and confidence in all pupils.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience working with children, ideally within an educational or SEND setting.
  • A compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting pupils.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Relevant qualification such as Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate (desirable but not essential).
  • Understanding of how to support children with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, and speech and language difficulties.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
