EYFS Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education is working closely with a welcoming and supportive primary school in Derby, who are seeking a dedicated and nurturing EYFS Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team with an immediate start.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support young learners at the very beginning of their educational journey. The ideal candidate will be passionate about early childhood development and confident in supporting children aged 3–5 in both structured and play-based learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the class teacher in delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to help children meet their developmental milestones

  • Contribute to creating a warm, safe, and stimulating classroom environment

  • Assist with planning and observations, and contribute to pupil progress tracking

  • Help manage behaviour and routines in a calm, nurturing way

  • Encourage the development of language, social skills, and emotional regulation

Requirements:

  • Experience working in an EYFS setting (nursery, preschool, or reception class)

  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, Childcare, or equivalent

  • A caring, patient, and proactive attitude

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one through Zest Education)

  • Good knowledge of the EYFS framework and safeguarding expectations

Desirable:

  • SEN experience, particularly with speech, language, or social development needs

  • Experience using Tapestry or other observation/assessment tools

  • Paediatric First Aid or additional relevant training

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
