Learner Support Assistant

About the role

A welcoming and inclusive school in Coventry is looking for a committed Learner Support Assistant to join their team. This role involves supporting pupils who require additional help with their learning, confidence and classroom engagement. You’ll be working closely with teachers and support staff to ensure every child can access the curriculum and feel supported throughout the school day.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and thrive both academically and emotionally.

Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people in an educational setting
• Strong understanding of classroom routines and expectations
• SEND experience or strong SEND awareness is highly desirable
• Ability to support pupils 1:1, in small groups and across the classroom
• A calm, patient and nurturing approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to follow teacher direction and use initiative
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing

Day‑to‑day duties

• Providing learning support to pupils who need additional help
• Assisting with literacy, numeracy and curriculum‑based activities
• Supporting behaviour using positive, consistent strategies
• Helping pupils stay focused, motivated and emotionally regulated
• Working with small groups or individuals to reinforce learning
• Supporting pupils with SEND through tailored strategies
• Collaborating with teachers and the wider support team
• Contributing to a safe, inclusive and encouraging learning environment

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
