Learning Support Assistant

Job Description

We’re recruiting for a passionate Learning Support Assistant role at a busy pupil referral unit (PRU) in Burton-on-Trent. This is a full-time position due to start September 2024, offering the opportunity to work Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 15:30.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children aged 5-11 within a safe and nurturing learning environment. Your role will focus on providing individualised support and guidance to help these children overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

To excel in this role, you must possess resilience and have proven skills in behaviour management. Patience, commitment, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of these children are essential qualities we are looking for. Working collaboratively with other members of staff as part of a dedicated team, you will contribute to maintaining small class sizes of 6-8 pupils, ensuring that each child receives the attention and care they deserve.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalized support to children with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties
  • Create a safe and welcoming learning environment
  • Implement behaviour management strategies to ensure a positive and productive classroom atmosphere
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to develop individualized learning plans
  • Assist with the personal care and well-being of students as required

 

 Requirements:

  • Relevant experience working with children with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations
  • Understanding of individualized learning approaches
  • A compassionate and patient nature

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
