SEN Teaching Assistant (Barnet)

Job Description

Are you passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children with Special Educational Needs? ZEST Education is looking for a caring and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a friendly mainstream primary school in Barnet.

You will be supporting pupils in a specialist provision within the school, designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and additional needs. Some pupils may display challenging behaviour, so a calm, empathetic and consistent approach is essential.

About the Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Role starts ASAP and will be until the end of the academic year, in an outstanding Primary School in Barnet
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with ASD and other SEN.

  • Help children develop communication, social and emotional regulation skills.

  • Assist with behaviour management and implement personalised learning strategies.

  • Foster inclusion and encourage positive interactions in both classroom and outdoor learning environments.

  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and other professionals to ensure every child can succeed.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a nurturing, structured and hands-on environment — including outdoor and sensory-based activities.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly Autism.

  • Understands how to support children with challenging behaviour in a positive and proactive way.

  • Is patient, reliable and able to remain calm under pressure.

  • Works well as part of a collaborative team.

  • Team Teach training (desirable).

Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or SEN training) are beneficial but not essential.

Why Work With Us?

  • Opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child’s educational journey.

  • Supportive school environment and access to ongoing professional development.

  • Long-term, stable role for the full academic year.
