SEND Classroom Support Assistant

Job Description

Are you looking for a part-time role in the education sector supporting students with SEND needs? Zest is currently recruiting for a part-time (Thursday and Friday each week) SEND Classroom Support Assistant on behalf of a school in Birmingham to start as soon as possible to support for the remainder of the academic year.

This school caters for students between the ages of 11yo-19yo who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The SEND Classroom Support Assistant having experience in the education sector previously is not required – but is beneficial due to the nature of the role.

 

Responsibilities of the SEND Classroom Support Assistant role:

  • Supporting students to achieve their academic goals in 1:1, 1:2 and group activities
  • Assisting class teacher in implementing the IEPS of the students
  • Implementing behavioural strategies to address challenges that may arise due to autism
  • Provide guidance and support during social situations to help students with autism navigate social challenges

 

Requirements of the SEND Classroom Support Assistant role:

  • Must be able to commit to the role Thursday and Friday each week
  • A genuine passion for supporting students to achieve their educational goals
  • Confidence to de-escalate potential situations and implement behavioural management strategies
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
