Do you have Level 3 BSL and are looking to support students in the special educational needs sector? Zest is currently recruiting for a SEND Classroom Support Assistant on behalf of a school in Birmingham to be available to start in the summer term. The ideal individual must have Level 3 BSL and experience working in a the education sector previously. The role will include supporting secondary-aged students with hearing impairments and other sensory impairments.


Responsibilities of the SEND Classroom Support Assistant role:

  • Assisting the students with classroom activities
  • Providing communication support using appropriate methods such as sign language or visual aids to facilitate effective communication
  • Working with teachers to adapt classroom materials, presentations, and activities to accommodate the individual needs of the students
  • Encouraging independence and self-advocacy skills to improve social confidence


Requirements of the SEND Classroom Support Assistant role:

  • Proficiency in BSL is required to succeed in this role
  • Familiarity with the challenges and needs of students with sensory impairments is important
  • Familiarity with assistive devices and technology commonly used by students with sensory impairments
  • Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills are crucial for effectively interacting with students and collaborating with other educators
