Are you passionate about supporting students with special educational needs on a 1:1 basis? Zest is currently recruiting for a full-time SEND 1:1 Learning Support Assistant on behalf of a school in Birmingham to start immediately on a long-term position that could potentially lead to a permanent role.

The SEND 1:1 Learning Support Assistant will be supporting a primary-aged student who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. The ideal individual will be passionate, patient and able to build rapport with the student quickly to help support academic needs.


Responsibilities of the SEND 1:1 Learning Support Assistant include:

  • Building rapport and trust with the student to encourage them to achieve their academic goals
  • Implementing strategies to manage and support challenging behaviours, providing a calm and structured environment
  • Facilitating social skills training and integration activities to enhance the student’s ability to interact with peers
  • Documenting and maintaining records of observations, achievements, and challenges
  • Recognising signs of distress and following established protocols to ensure the student’s safety

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
