SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Burton. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with children with special educational needs, supporting their learning, development, and wellbeing in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support individual pupils and small groups to achieve their learning targets

  • Lead interventions such as speech and language, Lego therapy, Zones of Regulation, phonics, and maths

  • Work closely with the SENCO to deliver personalised programmes of support in line with Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs)

  • Provide supervision during playtimes and lunchtimes

  • Maintain positive links with parents, making them feel welcome and involved

  • Collaborate with external agencies to implement recommended strategies and support

  • Assist with personal care and communication needs of pupils, following EHCP guidance

  • Is passionate about supporting SEND children and committed to going the extra mile

  • Can plan, adapt, and deliver 1:1 or group learning activities to meet individual needs

  • Works effectively as part of a team and communicates clearly with colleagues and parents

  • Demonstrates inclusivity and actively seeks to remove barriers to learning

  • Has confidence and enthusiasm to lead interventions and support pupil progress

Person Specification

Applicants will need:

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths – Grade 4/C or above

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs

  • Proven experience in planning and delivering learning activities for SEND pupils
