Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education is working in partnership with a warm and inclusive school in Derby to recruit a committed SEN Teaching Assistant. This rewarding role involves supporting students across the primary or secondary phase who require additional help due to a range of special educational needs, including autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language delays, and SEMH needs.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a real difference in young people’s lives and is confident working both one-to-one and in small groups.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEN in classroom and intervention settings

  • Work closely with teachers and the school’s SENCO to deliver personalised learning plans

  • Encourage student independence, emotional regulation, and classroom engagement

  • Use a variety of communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables (training can be provided)

  • Support personal care routines where necessary

  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment

 Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs

  • A caring, calm, and patient personality

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential)

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply through Zest Education)

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
