Teaching Assistant – SEND

Job Description

Step into a purposeful and fast‑paced role as a dedicated SEND teaching assistant supporting high‑profile pupils with complex needs in a Nuneaton school. From the moment you join, you’ll work directly with learners who require skilled, confident and consistent support. As a result, you’ll build strong, trusting relationships and guide pupils through academic tasks, emotional regulation and daily routines. Along the way, you’ll respond to challenging moments with calm, structure and clarity.

Throughout each day, you’ll take an active role in helping pupils manage behaviour, communication and engagement. In addition, you’ll use personalised strategies that help pupils stay focused, grounded and ready to learn. At the same time, you’ll collaborate closely with teachers, the SENCO and pastoral staff to ensure each pupil receives the right support at the right moment. Furthermore, you’ll adapt quickly as needs shift, maintaining consistency and confidence. Ultimately, your full‑time presence will make a direct and meaningful impact on pupils who rely on stable, skilled adults to help them succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small‑group support for high‑profile pupils with complex SEND
  • Using proactive strategies to support emotional regulation and behaviour
  • Responding confidently to challenging or unpredictable situations
  • Creating structured, calm and predictable learning environments
  • Breaking down tasks to maintain engagement and reduce overwhelm
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCO and pastoral teams
  • Encouraging independence, resilience and positive behaviour
  • Maintaining professional boundaries and consistent expectations

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong SEND experience, ideally with high‑profile or high‑needs pupils
  • A confident, resilient and proactive approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure
  • Full‑time availability, Monday–Friday
  • Readiness to start immediately as a SEND teaching assistant
