Year 3 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Full time

Job Description

Zest are recruiting for a hardworking and resilient full time 1:1 teaching assistant to work 1:1 with a child at a primary school in Tamworth.

This pupil displays an SEMH need rather than a cognition and learning need and can therefore access the curriculum well with emotional support.  She is a vibrant and engaging young person who thrives on connection within a secure relationship and with clear boundaries.  This pupil can display behaviours that challenge us as adults during periods of dysregulation and therefore requires high support during times of high challenge.  She may become dysregulated as a result of a number of factors including feeling failure e.g. with schoolwork, perceived rejection e.g. with friendships or not being chosen, not getting an immediate response from an adult or a solution to a problem, items or people not being there to meet an emotional or physical need and/or friendship conflicts.

Supporting the needs of the pupil through:

  • Providing adaptive and flexible support during learning activities identifying when to step in and when to give space to the young person.
  • Providing emotional support during times of dysregulation and also knowing when to take a step back and just be present.
  • Adapting tasks and strategies to support the pupil in line with their EHCP.
  • Supporting with interactions and friendships at break and lunchtime.
  • Making effective use of resources to support the pupil such as using a tent, weighted blanket, sensory activities/snacks, wobble stool, outdoor equipment, learning and movement breaks, use of other rooms and spaces e.g. sensory room/nurture room.
  • Communicating effectively with school staff and parents.
