Cover Supervisor

Job Description

Zest Education are currently recruiting for a Cover Supervisor to join a fantastic secondary school in the Moseley area. As a cover supervisor, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and manage classroom activities when the regular class teacher is absent. This role offers a great opportunity to gain experience working in a school environment and contribute to the education of students. This role is available for a January 2025 start.

A key aspect of the role is maintaining classroom discipline and behaviour management. You will be responsible for ensuring a positive and productive learning environment, enforcing the school’s behaviour policies, and managing any disruptions that may arise. This requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to handle challenging situations effectively.

Working as a cover supervisor provides an excellent opportunity to work closely with students and support their education. Planning and marking is not a requirement of this role, allowing for a better work-life balance. While you will not be responsible for planning any subject-specific content, you will have the chance to engage with diverse subjects and topics, broadening your own knowledge base in the process. This exposure can be particularly beneficial for those interested in pursuing a career in education.

To be considered, you will need a minimum of 20 days experience working with groups of children or young people or be a recent University Graduate. Due to the varying nature of Cover Supervisor work, applicants can come from various backgrounds including recent graduates, sports coaches, youth workers, dance teachers, play group leaders and scout leaders.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and manage classroom activities in the absence of the teacher
  • Ensure students stay on task and complete assigned work
  • Maintain good behaviour management and discipline in the classroom
  • Foster a positive learning environment for students
  • Support students with any questions or concerns they may have during lessons
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and follow the school’s policies and procedures
Requirements:
  • Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any subject
  • Previous experience working with young people is advantageous
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with students of different ages
  • Excellent behaviour management skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing environments and requirements
