1:1 Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant for a full-time position at a welcoming primary school in Derby. The role runs from 8:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday, with an immediate start and the potential to become permanent from September. This is an excellent opportunity to make a lasting impact by providing 1:1 support for a child with Autism and ADHD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work on a 1:1 basis with a pupil who requires additional support due to Autism and ADHD, ensuring they feel safe, understood, and able to access learning

  • Implement strategies to help manage behaviour and promote engagement, following guidance from the class teacher and SENCO

  • Adapt learning materials and tasks to suit the pupil’s individual needs, helping to break down instructions and reinforce learning in a calm and supportive way

  • Foster a positive and consistent routine, promoting social and emotional development alongside academic progress

  • Collaborate with classroom staff, external specialists, and parents/carers to ensure consistent and high-quality support

  • Support with general classroom duties and help create a nurturing, inclusive learning environment for all pupils

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children who have Autism and/or ADHD is essential – this may be in a school, residential, care or similar setting

  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure

  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to support

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with both pupils and staff

  • A proactive attitude and genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
