SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education is working closely with a primary school in Derby that is seeking a committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately. This role offers full-time hours (8:00am–3:00pm, Monday to Friday) and comes with the exciting potential for a permanent position from September.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties

  • Adapting learning activities and approaches to meet the unique needs of each pupil

  • Building trust and strong relationships to encourage emotional and academic development

  • Working alongside teaching staff and the SENCO to deliver consistent and structured support

  • Promoting a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with children with SEN (either in schools or alternative settings)

  • A calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach – especially when faced with challenging behaviour

  • A team player who communicates well with staff, parents, and external professionals

  • Ideally holds a relevant TA qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3), but passion and experience matter most

  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply through Zest)

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
