Zest Education is recruiting friendly and hardworking Kitchen Assistants to join school catering teams across Birmingham. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a busy kitchen environment and takes pride in helping to serve healthy, nutritious meals to pupils and staff.
Assist with the preparation, serving, and presentation of school meals
Keep the kitchen, dining hall, and food areas clean and tidy at all times
Wash dishes, trays, and utensils and return them to the correct areas
Support the cook or catering manager with basic food prep and stock checks
Ensure all food hygiene, health, and safety procedures are followed
Help with setting up and clearing away before and after lunchtime service
✅ Previous experience in a school, catering, or hospitality kitchen (preferred but not essential)
✅ Basic understanding of food hygiene and safety standards
✅ Friendly, reliable, and able to work well as part of a team
✅ Able to follow instructions and work efficiently during busy periods
✅ Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
