Learning Support Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education is proud to be working with a fantastic special school to recruit a dedicated Learning Support Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference in the lives of young learners, helping them to grow in confidence and achieve their full potential in a caring and inclusive environment.

Location: Coventry /Ages: All years / Contract: Long-Term / Days: 3 days p/w

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people, ideally those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach when working with pupils who may have complex needs
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A genuine passion for education and helping children overcome barriers to learning
  • A relevant qualification (such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant) or equivalent experience is desirable
  • A current enhanced DBS certificate or willingness to apply for one

 

This special school caters for children aged 4–16 with a wide range of SEND, including autism, communication difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs. The school prides itself on its supportive and nurturing ethos, providing a safe and stimulating environment where pupils can develop essential life skills alongside their academic learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils across different age groups and abilities
  • Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities that meet each child’s individual needs
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help pupils develop social and communication skills
  • Support pupils with personal care and mobility where required, ensuring dignity and comfort
  • Contribute to creating an engaging, inclusive and structured classroom environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other professionals to support pupil progress
  • Monitor and record pupil development and share feedback with the teaching team

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
