Job Description

Zest Education is currently recruiting flexible Teaching Assistants for day-to-day, part-time, and ongoing roles across a variety of welcoming and supportive schools in the Derby area. These opportunities are ideal for individuals who want to make a real impact on young people’s lives while enjoying a role that fits around their schedule.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant in Derby schools, you will support both pupils and teachers to ensure every child has the chance to succeed. You may work across different subjects, year groups, and settings, helping to create positive, inclusive, and engaging classrooms. Roles are available on a flexible day-to-day basis as well as part-time schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers with lesson delivery, helping pupils stay focused and engaged.
  • One-to-One & Small Group Support: Provide targeted help for pupils needing extra guidance with learning, confidence, or behaviour.
  • SEN Support: Work with pupils who have additional learning needs, following individual plans and promoting inclusion.
  • Resource Preparation: Help prepare classroom resources, displays, and learning materials.
  • Behaviour & Pastoral Support: Encourage positive behaviour and emotional well-being, helping pupils develop resilience and social skills.
  • Collaboration: Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other staff members to support pupil progress.
  • Supervision: Support pupils during break and lunchtime to maintain a safe and friendly environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people (in school or other settings).
  • A genuine passion for education and supporting learners of all abilities.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude.
  • TA qualifications (Level 2/3 or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
