Zest Education is seeking a resilient, compassionate, and highly committed Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Rednal. This full‑time, immediate start position is a demanding but incredibly rewarding role, working primarily on a one‑to‑one basis with a Year 2 child who presents with ASD, behavioural challenges, and SEMH needs.

If you are passionate about making a meaningful difference in a child’s school experience, this opportunity offers the chance to work closely with supportive staff while helping a pupil thrive both emotionally and academically.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Work predominantly 1‑1 with a Year 2 pupil who requires consistent support throughout the school day.
  • Support a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), behavioural difficulties, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Help the child regulate emotions, manage behaviour, and remain engaged during lessons and activities.
  • Implement individualised strategies and learning plans created by teachers and the SENCO.
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil while providing stability, encouragement, and structure.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals when required.

The role is demanding and requires patience, consistency, and a proactive approach. However, the school provides excellent staff support, ongoing guidance, and a positive team culture.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who:

  • Has experience supporting children with ASD, behavioural challenges, and/or SEMH needs.
  • Remains calm, firm, and nurturing in challenging situations.
  • Is confident working one‑to‑one, providing emotional support and behaviour regulation strategies.
  • Can follow structured plans but also use initiative when situations change.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Is reliable, dedicated, and prepared for the demands of a fast‑paced, high‑needs role.

Previous experience in a similar role or in a SEND setting is highly desirable.

Why Work with Zest Education?

  • Ongoing support from a friendly and experienced consultant.
  • Competitive weekly pay, issued promptly.
  • Access to a network of supportive schools across the West Midlands.
  • Opportunities for long‑term work and professional growth in SEND support.
