Job Description

Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant – SEN (ASD Support)
Location: Cannock 
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Ongoing – Full Academic Year

We are seeking an experienced and committed Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Special Educational Needs (SEN) school, working on a 1:1 basis with a primary-aged pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a full-time role running throughout the academic year, offering consistency and the opportunity to build a strong and trusting relationship with the child.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to a child with ASD, helping them access the curriculum in a meaningful and structured way.

  • Implement strategies and interventions outlined in the pupil’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development.

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals.

  • Maintain clear and detailed records of progress and observations.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Has previous experience supporting children with ASD or other additional needs.

  • Is calm, reliable, and enthusiastic with a positive, proactive approach.

  • Can build strong, trusting relationships with children, staff, and parents.

  • Holds an enhanced DBS on the update service or is willing to apply for one.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
