Job Description

A friendly and well‑organised primary school in Redditch is looking for a dependable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join their catering team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast‑paced environment and takes pride in helping provide healthy, nutritious meals for children. A temp‑to‑perm route is available for the right person.

🍽️ What the Role Involves

  • Assisting with the preparation of hot and cold meals in line with school food standards
  • Supporting the cook with basic food prep such as chopping, portioning, and plating
  • Setting up and clearing down the dining hall before and after lunch service
  • Keeping the kitchen clean, tidy, and compliant with hygiene regulations
  • Washing up, organising equipment, and maintaining safe working practices
  • Helping create a calm, positive lunchtime experience for pupils
  • Working closely with the catering team to ensure smooth daily service

👩‍🍳 What the School Is Looking For

  • Experience in a kitchen, café, catering, or food‑service environment (school experience helpful but not essential)
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn
  • Understanding of food hygiene and safe kitchen practices
  • Ability to work efficiently during busy periods
  • Reliability, punctuality, and good teamwork skills
  • A Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable (or willingness to complete one)
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
