SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education is recruiting a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school with a specialist provision designed for pupils with additional needs. The school’s “Den‑style” environment supports children with a range of SEND, most of whom have EHCPs outlining their individual targets and required support.

You will work under the guidance of the SENDCo and class teachers, delivering planned learning activities and helping pupils make progress towards their EHCP outcomes. This is a rewarding role within a highly supportive team who understand the complexities and demands of SEND provision.

About the Role

You will be part of a small, skilled team supporting up to four pupils with a range of needs. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering lessons and activities planned by class teachers
  • Adjusting learning tasks based on pupil responses
  • Creating clear but flexible routines within the provision
  • Planning activities linked to EHCP targets under SENDCo supervision
  • Supporting communication, social skills and emotional regulation
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive interactions
  • Reinforcing key concepts, vocabulary and learning objectives
  • Monitoring and reporting changes in behaviour or engagement
  • Supporting pupils during off‑site trips when required

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND (ASD, SEMH, communication needs, ADHD or similar)
  • Understanding of EHCPs and how to support targeted outcomes
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Confidence working in a structured but flexible SEND environment
  • Willingness to learn, take direction and use initiative

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
