Finance Officer

A vibrant, community‑focused school in Balsall Heath is looking for an experienced, detail‑driven Finance Officer to support the smooth running of their financial operations. This role suits someone who is confident with school finance systems, highly organised, and able to manage deadlines in a busy environment.

💼 Finance Officer Role

You’ll work closely with the School Business Manager to ensure the school’s finances are accurate, compliant, and well‑managed. This includes processing transactions, monitoring budgets, supporting audits, and maintaining strong financial controls across the school.

🧾 Key Responsibilities

• Processing invoices, purchase orders, and payments in line with school financial procedures
• Monitoring departmental budgets and supporting forecasting for SLT and budget holders
• Preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and month‑end documentation
• Managing income streams including school meals, trips, clubs, and parental payments
• Supporting payroll processes and liaising with external payroll providers
• Maintaining accurate financial records for audit and compliance
• Managing petty cash, procurement, and supplier communication
• Ensuring financial policies, safeguarding, and audit requirements are followed

👩‍💼 What the School Needs

• Strong experience in school finance or a similar financial administration role
• Confident use of finance systems such as FMS, PS Financials, SIMS Finance, Arbor Finance
• Excellent numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet strict deadlines
• Strong communication skills and a professional, discreet manner
• Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
