SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

A supportive SEND setting in Coleshill now seeks a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant for a full‑time, Monday to Friday role. The position focuses on providing consistent 1:1 support for a learner with additional needs. You bring strong SEND experience or a background in care, and you use a calm, structured approach that helps the pupil feel safe, understood and ready to engage. Moreover, you work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver adapted tasks, clear routines and personalised interventions. As the day progresses, you guide the learner through challenges, encourage independence and maintain steady engagement across lessons and activities.

 

Key Responsibilities of a SEND Teaching Assistant

  • Deliver 1:1 SEND support throughout the school day
  • Provide targeted interventions that build confidence, regulation and engagement
  • Use clear routines to reduce anxiety and support consistency
  • Adapt learning tasks to meet individual needs
  • Support positive behaviour approaches through calm communication
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and the SENCO
  • Promote independence, resilience and steady progress

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong SEND experience or relevant care background
  • Confidence supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, communication needs or complex learning profiles
  • Clear communication and a patient, supportive approach
  • Ability to follow structured routines and maintain consistency
  • Full‑time availability, Monday to Friday
  • Interest in Coleshill‑based SEND roles

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
