Primary Teaching Assistant

Start Date: ASAP | Duration: End of Autumn Term, with strong potential for extension

Zest Education is delighted to recruit an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant for a friendly and welcoming primary school in Stoke-on-Trent. This school combines a nurturing and inclusive ethos with a strong sense of community, encouraging creativity, curiosity and a love of learning. As a result, pupils are supported to develop confidence, independence and a positive attitude towards education.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to provide high-quality classroom support. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of engaging and interactive learning activities
  • Assisting pupils with reading, writing and numeracy development
  • Helping to maintain a safe, stimulating and inclusive learning environment
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required
  • Encouraging pupils’ social, emotional and academic progress
  • Supporting positive behaviour and promoting pupil wellbeing

The Ideal Candidate

Ideally, candidates will hold a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning and have previous experience working with children. In addition, you will possess:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, caring and positive attitude
  • Effective behaviour management skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Creativity, enthusiasm and a passion for education
  • A good understanding of safeguarding procedures and child development

All candidates must hold an enhanced DBS (or allow us to process one for you) and be registered to the DBS Update Service, be able to provide references to cover the last two years and successfully pass all other necessary safeguarding checks prior to clearance for work.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
