SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

This supportive Stratford‑upon‑Avon school is seeking a full‑time SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. The role suits someone with strong SEND experience and a calm, consistent approach. Ideally you hold a relevant qualification, but the school is equally open to experienced candidates without formal training.

The position involves working closely with pupils who have a range of additional needs, including Autism, communication differences and social‑emotional challenges. You will help create structured routines, support learning tasks and provide steady, nurturing guidance throughout the school day.

 

Key Responsibilities of a SEND Teaching Assistant

  • SEND support delivered through calm routines and clear expectations
  • Classroom assistance across core subjects and adapted learning tasks
  • 1:1 and small‑group work to build confidence and engagement
  • Personal care support when required
  • Positive behaviour strategies using warm, consistent communication
  • Close teamwork with teachers, pastoral staff and the SENCO

  • Confidence adapting tasks for varied needs
  • Full‑time availability

  • Qualification preferred but not essential

The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
