1-1 Teaching assistant

Job Description

Step into a focused and rewarding role as a dedicated 1–1 Teaching Assistant supporting a pupil with additional needs in a welcoming Warwick primary school. From the moment you join, you’ll work closely with one learner who requires consistent, personalised support. As a result, you’ll immediately begin building a strong, trusting relationship and guiding them through both academic tasks and emotional challenges. Along the way, you’ll shape a calm, structured environment that helps them feel secure, grounded and ready to learn.

Throughout each day, you’ll take the lead in providing structure, reassurance and tailored strategies that keep the pupil engaged and confident. In addition, you’ll actively collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO and wider staff team to ensure the pupil receives the right level of support at the right moment. At the same time, you’ll adjust your approach as their needs shift, responding quickly and confidently. Because of this, your role as a 1–1 Teaching Assistant becomes direct, visible and genuinely meaningful. Ultimately, you’ll see real progress as the pupil grows in confidence, independence and emotional resilience.

Key Responsibilities of a 1-1 Teaching Assistant

  • Deliver targeted 1:1 support for a pupil with SEND
  • Use proactive strategies to support emotional regulation and behaviour
  • Break down tasks and instructions to maintain engagement
  • Build a positive, consistent relationship with the pupil
  • Work closely with staff to follow personalised support plans
  • Encourage independence, confidence and resilience
  • Maintain a calm, structured and predictable learning environment

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven SEND experience
  • A confident, patient and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to commit to 2 days per week
  • Readiness to start immediately as a 1:1 teaching assistant
