ASD – Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Are you a patient, understanding and experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with autism? A welcoming and inclusive school in Rugby is looking for a dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full‑time basis. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured environment, enjoys building strong relationships and is confident supporting pupils with communication, sensory and social‑interaction needs.

 

About the Role

You will be working closely with pupils with ASD, helping them access learning, regulate emotions and feel secure within the school environment. The role involves supporting both 1:1 and small‑group work, adapting activities and using consistent routines to help pupils feel calm, focused and ready to learn.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with autism
  • Using visual supports, structured routines and sensory strategies
  • Supporting communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
  • Adapting classroom activities to meet individual needs
  • Working closely with teachers and the SEND team to deliver personalised support
  • Creating a calm, safe and predictable learning environment
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and positive behaviour

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with ASD or other SEND needs
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Confidence using visual timetables, now/next boards and sensory tools
  • Ability to follow structured routines and behaviour strategies
  • Commitment to full‑time, Monday–Friday work
