Attendance Officer

Job Description

A supportive and well‑organised school in Walsall is looking for a dedicated, proactive, and highly organised Attendance Officer to help improve pupil attendance and support families. This role suits someone who is confident communicating with parents, can analyse attendance data, and understands the importance of safeguarding and early intervention.

📝 Key Responsibilities

  • Monitoring daily attendance and following up unexplained absences
  • Making first‑day response calls and maintaining accurate attendance records
  • Meeting with pupils and families to identify barriers to attendance
  • Conducting home visits where necessary (with appropriate training/support)
  • Analysing attendance data and producing reports for SLT
  • Working closely with pastoral teams, safeguarding leads, and external agencies
  • Supporting the implementation of attendance strategies and interventions
  • Ensuring all procedures follow statutory guidance and safeguarding policies

👩‍💼 What the School Needs

  • Experience in a school office, pastoral, or attendance role (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and confidence speaking with families
  • Good IT skills, including MIS systems (SIMS/Arbor/Bromcom)
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A proactive, solution‑focused approach to improving attendance
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
