Location: Kingstanding, Birmingham
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

📌About the EAL Teaching Assistant Role

As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils who speak English as an Additional Language, helping them develop essential communication and literacy skills so they can fully engage with the curriculum and classroom activities.

You will work closely with teachers and school staff to provide tailored support for children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, ensuring every pupil feels included, supported, and able to thrive academically and socially.

This role is perfect for individuals with experience in:

📌Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL) in developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions to improve English language acquisition.
  • Assist teachers in adapting classroom materials and learning resources to meet EAL needs.
  • Promote inclusion, engagement, and positive behaviour within the classroom.
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents to support learning outcomes.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment for all pupils.

📌Requirements

To be considered for this EAL Teaching Assistant role, you should have:

  • Experience working with children in a school, childcare, or educational setting.
  • Previous experience supporting EAL pupils (desirable but not essential).
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping children succeed.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team within a busy primary school environment.
