Head of Year, North Birmingham

Job Description

Zest Education are closely working with a secondary school in the Hodge Hill area who are looking to appoint a Head of Year. The school is a small family secondary school who know and care for every student. They genuinely value and strive to enhance working partnerships within and outside the school.

This is a full-time role starting as soon as possible. The daily hours are 8:15am-4pm.

Responsibilities:

  • To manage the behaviour of pupils and work effectively with other staff, families, and carers to overcome behavioural obstacles to learning
  • Lead the management of pupil behaviour
  • Undertake the assessment of needs of individual pupils
  • Responsible for the supervision of individual or small groups of pupils to provide, advice, motivation and support on behaviour and welfare issues
  • Advise senior management team in the production and implementation of whole school plans, initiatives and strategies to improve pupil behaviour

This is a key post within the school which requires dedication and a highly efficient and responsible approach. It requires working closely with students, teaching staff and parents as well as with members of the Senior Leadership team, as part of a whole school’s approach to the behaviour management.

This role calls for the ability to work on one’s own and as part of the wider school. To use judgement and initiative and to be able to priorities is essential in order to meet deadlines, carrying out all tasks and functions with discretion and confidentiality at all times. The ability to remain calm and controlled under the pressures of working in a very demanding and constantly changing environment is also imperative.

Rate of pay will vary dependant on experience.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years, teaching within a school teaching the British Curriculum).
