Job Description

Zest Education is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate KS1 Teacher to work in a school in Warwick with pupils who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), specifically focusing on pre-verbal and early years development. This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced teacher who is passionate about supporting children with complex communication needs and helping them thrive in a nurturing environment.

🧩 Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to pupils with SEND, focusing on early years and pre-verbal development
  • Use a range of communication strategies (PECS, Makaton, sensory approaches) to support learning
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and parents to support individual learning plans (EHCPs)
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching methods to meet individual needs
  • Promote positive behaviour and wellbeing through patience, empathy, and consistency
  • Ensure safeguarding and SEND policies are followed at all times

👤 Ideal Candidate:

✅ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience in KS1 or Early Years

📋 Experience working with children with SEND, particularly pre-verbal or non-verbal pupils

💬 Knowledge of communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC systems

🤝 Patient, empathetic, and able to build strong relationships with pupils and families

🖥️ Creative approach to teaching, using sensory and play-based learning

🛡️ Understanding of safeguarding and SEND frameworks

🪪 Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
