Learning Support Assistant

Job Description

Are you a compassionate and patient individual with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs? A friendly and inclusive primary school in Stratford-upon-Avon is looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join their team from January 2026. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to reach their full potential in a supportive, nurturing environment.

Role: Learning support assistant | Start Date: January 2026 | working days: Mon – Fri

To be successful in this role, candidates should have prior experience working with children—particularly those with additional or complex needs such as autism, ADHD, or speech and language difficulties. A qualification in supporting teaching and learning (e.g. Level 2 or 3) is desirable, though a positive attitude, empathy, and a commitment to inclusive education are essential. You will need to be adaptable, patient, and confident in working 1:1 or in small groups to meet a variety of learning and emotional needs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEND, ensuring their individual learning needs are met.
  • Work 1:1 with children or in small groups to deliver personalised interventions and learning activities.
  • Assist the class teacher in planning and adapting lessons to suit diverse learning abilities.
  • Promote social, emotional, and academic development through encouragement and empathy.
  • Support children with behavioural, communication, or sensory needs in maintaining focus and confidence.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, sharing updates with the class teacher and SENCo.
  • Uphold safeguarding procedures and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.
