Part-time Teaching Assistant.

A fantastic special educational needs school situated in Walsall requires a part-time Teaching Assistant to work three days a week. This position is due to begin October 2022 and will continue on a long term basis into the new academic year. The school is situated in a popular area, so is easily accessible by private or public transport.

This school caters for students from the age of seven to nineteen with severe and profound complex learning difficulties. Due to the needs of the learners, the ideal candidate will have experience supporting individuals with SEND or in a similar setting.

This is a popular SEND school which encourages all children to develop into independent, respectful, and confident individuals. The school has the use of a dedicated ‘Bedsit’ within the local community where students learn ‘independent living skills’ within a realistic setting. It is important that you are confident with supporting the students both inside and outside of the classroom.

You will need to be able to build positive relationships with the students to help them manage the learning challenges of the day. You will be working across a range of age groups, supporting the students individually and in small groups, so it is important you have an adaptable approach.

The role:

  • You must be passionate about working with students with special educational needs and have previous experience of working in a special school or similar environment
  • You will be working alongside the teacher setting up any equipment needed in the lessons, ready for use
  • You will be confident, enthusiastic and be able to identify and engage with different learning needs
