School Caretaker

Job Description

Zest Education have an exciting opportunity for a school caretaker to work in a Secondary School in the Handsworth area to start as soon as possible.

This role is on a supply basis, but may evolve into a permanent role for the right person.

The Caretaker is responsible for the day to day cleanliness and tidiness of the School and the upkeep of the school grounds.

Duties will include:

  • carry out day-to-day maintenance and minor repairs
  • book outside contractors for major repair work
  • make sure heating, lighting and alarm systems are working properly
  • check doors and windows are locked when the building is not in use
  • open up buildings in the morning and lock them at the end of the day
  • arrange chairs and tables for meetings and clear them away afterwards
  • supervise other cleaning staff
  • Working hours are from 7:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday
  • Pay rates start from £13 – £14 per hour.

All candidates must hold an enhanced DBS (or allow us to process one for you) and be registered to the DBS Update Service, be able to provide references to cover the last two years and successfully pass all other necessary safeguarding checks prior to clearance for work.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
