Zest Education is proud to be working with a number of specialist and inclusive schools across Derby to recruit compassionate and confident SEN Cover Supervisors for a September start. This role is ideal for individuals with experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs, particularly those with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or complex learning difficulties.
Whether you’re an experienced SEN support worker or looking to transition into a school-based role from a care or youth background, this could be the perfect opportunity.
The Role:
As an SEN Cover Supervisor, you’ll supervise classes during staff absence, delivering pre-set work and supporting students with varying additional needs. With smaller group sizes and strong support staff, your focus will be on engagement, consistency, and emotional regulation.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver pre-prepared learning activities to small groups or whole classes
Support pupils with SEN to access the curriculum in a calm and nurturing way
Proactively manage behaviour using positive strategies
Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral teams, and SEND staff
Build trusted relationships and provide a consistent adult presence
What You’ll Need:
Experience working with children or young people with SEN (in education, care, youth work, or similar)
Strong interpersonal and behaviour management skills
A patient, calm, and understanding approach
Ability to think on your feet and adapt to pupil needs
A passion for inclusive education and supporting vulnerable learners

All candidates must hold an enhanced DBS (or allow us to process one for you) and be registered to the DBS Update Service, be able to provide references to cover the last two years and successfully pass all other necessary safeguarding checks prior to clearance for work.
Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
