SEND Base Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Zest Education are proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in Burton upon Trent, who are looking to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their SEND provision on a full-time basis from September until Christmas 2026.

This rewarding role will involve supporting pupils primarily within KS1 who have a range of additional needs and significant developmental delays. Many of the children are currently working within developmental milestones typically associated with 6-18 months of age and require high levels of support throughout the school day.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant within the school’s SEND base, you will:

  • Provide tailored support to children with complex SEND needs.
  • Help pupils access learning activities through play-based and sensory approaches.
  • Support communication, social development and emotional regulation.
  • Assist with personal care, including changing and toileting where required.
  • Work closely with teachers, SEND professionals and other support staff to ensure pupils receive the highest level of care and education.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to help them feel safe, supported and engaged.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

  • Have previous experience working with children with SEND, either in education, care or support settings.
  • Be confident supporting children with personal care needs, including changing and toileting.
  • Have a patient, nurturing and empathetic approach.
  • Be able to work as part of a dedicated team whilst using their own initiative.
  • Be passionate about helping children with additional needs reach their full potential.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
