Job Description

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Coventry is looking for a committed SEND Support Assistant to join their team on a part‑time, long‑term basis. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, nurturing and confident supporting children with a range of additional needs, including communication difficulties, learning delays, social‑emotional needs or sensory differences. You’ll be working closely with class teachers and the SENDCo to provide tailored support, help pupils stay engaged in lessons, and contribute to a calm, positive and structured learning environment where every child feels safe and supported.

What the school is looking for

  • Experience working with SEND pupils in a school or childcare setting
  • A calm, patient and encouraging approach
  • Confidence supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow teacher direction and use initiative
  • Understanding of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

 

Key responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEND
  • Assisting with learning activities across the classroom
  • Helping pupils regulate emotions and stay engaged
  • Supporting communication, social skills and independence
  • Working closely with teachers and the SENDCo
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment
