SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Are you looking for a role supporting students with special educational needs? Zest is currently recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant on behalf of a school in Wednesbury to start immediately on a full-time basis. The ideal individual will have experience in a school setting or have personal care experience.

The SEND Teaching Assistant will be supporting students with autism spectrum disorder between the ages of 4yo-19yo. The role will be ongoing for at least the remainder of the academic year.

 

Responsibilities of the SEND Teaching Assistant role:

  • Implementing strategies outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to address academic and behavioural goals
  • Working with the school’s behaviour support team to develop and implementing behaviour intervention plans
  • Supporting students in understanding and navigating social situations
  • Collaborating with the classroom teacher to adapt and modify lessons to meet the needs of the students
  • Monitoring and recording the academic and behavioural progress of the students

 

Requirements of the SEND Teaching Assistant role:

  • Previous experience working with children, especially those with autism or other special educational needs, is highly favourable
  • Knowledge of different teaching strategies and interventions for students with autism is also beneficial
  • Knowledge and skills in positive behaviour management strategies for maintaining a positive and supportive learning environment

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
