SEND Teaching Assistant – Burntwood 

Location: Burntwood, Staffordshire
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Supply (potential long-term position for the right candidate)
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)

Are you an experienced and caring SEND Teaching Assistant in Burntwood looking for a rewarding role supporting children with additional needs?
We’re currently recruiting for a SEND TA to work in a friendly and inclusive school supporting pupils with mild autism (ASC). This is a supply role with the potential to become a long-term or permanent position for the right candidate.


About the SEND Teaching Assistant Role

As a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with children who have Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), helping them to thrive both academically and socially. You’ll provide 1:1 and small group support, encouraging independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.

Your day will run from 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday, working alongside experienced teachers and a supportive SEND team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with mild autism and other additional needs in lessons.

  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies.

  • Help students develop social skills, confidence, and independence.

  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and parents to support each child’s progress.

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.


About You

We’re looking for a compassionate and dedicated individual who is passionate about supporting children with SEND.

Essential:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with SEND or autism (not necessarily in a school setting – experience in care, youth work, or community roles is welcome).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.

  • A genuine desire to make a difference in children’s lives.

Desirable:

  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.

  • Experience working within a school or educational setting.
