SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

Step into a dynamic and purposeful role as a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant supporting pupils with SEMH and ASC needs in a nurturing Nuneaton school.

From the moment you join, you’ll work directly with learners who rely on consistent, skilled and emotionally attuned support. As a result, you’ll quickly build trust, strengthen relationships and guide pupils through both academic challenges and emotional regulation. Along the way, you’ll support children who present with attachment‑related behaviours, responding with structure, patience and clear boundaries.

Throughout each day, you’ll take an active role in helping pupils manage routines, transitions and social interactions. In addition, you’ll use personalised strategies that help pupils stay calm, focused and emotionally grounded. At the same time, you’ll collaborate closely with teachers, the SENCO and the wider pastoral team to ensure every pupil receives the right support at the right moment. Because this is a full‑time SEND Teaching Assistant position, your impact will be immediate, visible and deeply meaningful. Ultimately, you’ll see pupils grow in confidence, emotional resilience and independence — progress made possible through your consistency and commitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting SEMH needs through proactive emotional‑regulation strategies
  • Providing 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with ASC
  • Responding confidently to attachment‑related behaviours
  • Creating predictable routines and calm learning spaces
  • Breaking down tasks to maintain engagement and reduce overwhelm
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCO and pastoral staff
  • Encouraging independence, resilience and positive behaviour
  • Using visual supports, structured plans and personalised approaches

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven SEND experience (SEMH and/or ASC essential)
  • A confident, patient and emotionally resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to support pupils with attachment‑based behaviours
  • Full‑time availability, Monday–Friday
  • Readiness to start immediately as a SEND Teaching Assistant
