SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

A friendly and inclusive mainstream primary school in Rugby is now looking for a committed SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team full‑time from September. As you step into this role, you immediately take an active position in the classroom, supporting pupils with additional needs as they learn, grow and build confidence. You work closely with the class teacher each day, and together you create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment that helps every child feel secure, engaged and ready to participate. Additionally you will work closely with children with complex needs.

Furthermore, you take on a range of purposeful responsibilities that make each day meaningful. You deliver 1:1 and small‑group support, and you guide pupils through adapted activities that strengthen their understanding, independence and emotional regulation. Additionally, you encourage positive behaviour and contribute to a nurturing classroom culture where every child feels valued, supported and motivated to succeed.

Key Responsibilities of a SEND Teaching Assistant

  • Support SEND pupils through 1:1 and small‑group work
  • Assist with daily routines and classroom organisation
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional development
  • Help pupils access learning through adapted tasks and clear guidance
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and wider school staff

  • Strong experience supporting children with SEND (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech & language)
  • Ideally Level 2 or Level 3 TA qualified
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of SEND needs
  • A patient, proactive and enthusiastic approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Confidence supporting primary‑aged pupils
  • Full‑time availability Monday–Friday from September
  • Interest in SEND roles in Rugby
