SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description

A supportive school in the Coventry and Nuneaton area seeks a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant for a September start. The team welcomes qualified applicants, although strong experience also carries weight. You create a calm, structured and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn. You work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver personalised learning that meets individual needs. Throughout the day, you guide pupils through tasks, encourage positive routines and help them regulate their emotions.

 

Key Responsibilities of a SEND Teaching Assistant

  • Provide SEND classroom support for pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH and other learning differences
  • Deliver small‑group and 1:1 interventions that reinforce key skills and build confidence
  • Use trauma‑informed strategies to support regulation and reduce anxiety
  • Follow clear routines that promote structure, consistency and emotional safety
  • Support positive behaviour approaches through calm communication and predictable expectations
  • Work closely with teachers, LSAs and external professionals to deliver high‑quality provision
  • Prepare adapted learning materials that meet EHCP targets and individual learning styles

 

What We’re Looking For

  • A qualified Teaching Assistant (Level 2/3), although strong experience also counts
  • Confidence supporting pupils with SEND, including ASC, ADHD and SEMH
  • Clear communication and a patient, nurturing approach
  • Ability to follow structured routines and support emotional regulation
  • Full‑time availability from September
  • Interest in Coventry or Nuneaton‑based roles

The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
