Teacher Of The Deaf

Job Description

Zest Education is proud to be working in partnership with Derbyshire County Council to recruit a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QToD) to join a dedicated peripatetic team supporting children with hearing impairments across mainstream schools in Derbyshire.

This is a visiting teacher role, where you will work collaboratively with school staff, families, and other professionals to ensure that deaf and hearing-impaired students have access to a fully inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist teaching and support to pupils with hearing impairments in mainstream settings

  • Deliver tailored interventions and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

  • Offer guidance and training to school staff on inclusive teaching practices

  • Liaise with audiologists, speech and language therapists, and families

  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to progress reviews

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential

  • Mandatory qualification as a Teacher of the Deaf – essential

  • British Sign Language (BSL) Level 3 or above – essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Valid UK driving licence and access to a car for school visits

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
